Piscataqua Hounds' MFH: Cheryl Bucklin Niles

Cheryl Bucklin Niles has been a familiar face in the hunt community in New Hampshire, New England, and on the national scene for over 30 years. She served as MFH and huntsman of the Wentworth Hunt for fifteen years. During this time she developed an outstanding pack of award winning American Fox Hounds uniquely suited to the challenges and traditions of hunting in New England.

Cheryl takes great pride in being one of the founders of the Piscataqua Hounds. She has drawn on her experience as MFH of the Wentworth Hunt for the longest term of any MFH in the hunt's history, as well as her experience as hunt staff for three decades, and the longtime friendships with landowners, to launch the inaugural season of the Piscataqua Hounds in 2007. Cheryl's many years of experience have taught her that it takes blood, sweat and tears to manage a project of this size as scope, but she relishes this kind of challenge. Fortunately, Piscataqua sports a board and membership who can build anything, ride anywhere and fundraise for necessities! "It's a heady pleasure to be part of this team!" commented Cheryl concerning the formation of the Piscataqua Hounds. "I am overwhelmed and appreciative of the response to the Piscataqua Hounds.

The Piscataqua kennels are located at the home of Cheryl and her husband George, who serves as kennelman. As huntsman, Cheryl personally oversees and participates in the daily care of the hounds, and conducts training and conditioning of the pack. The American Foxhounds which comprise the pack have won many awards over the years. Keeping an eye to the future for habitat, water quality and, of course, open tracts where horses are allowed are reasons Cheryl lends a hand to conservation efforts.

Artists by training and trade, the Niles are both U.N.H. alumni and run Red Horse Hill Pottery. Cheryl's equine pottery line is featured at several local horse shows.
